Did you know that an estimated 300 million shoes are thrown away each year in the United States alone?  That’s enough shoes to stretch from New York to Los Angeles and back again more than 20 times over.  Wait?  can we back up one second?  People throw away shoes?  The shame!  That’s like throwing away a child!!  Okay, so maybe that’s taking it a little too far…but imagine all those piles of shoes sitting in our landfills that could be in my closet!  Or better yet, those shoes could be clothing the foot of a person in need.  Soles4Souls, the same wonderful company that recently donated truckloads of shoes to those in need from the California fires has just announced that they will be going green for the remainder of 2007.  They are urging shoe companies, retailers, and individuals to donate gently worn (or new, of course they’ll take them new as well) footwear to the cause.
