You know, you really can’t go wrong when you purchase a ballet flat from a discount shoe store or bargain warehouse. I’m the first one to admit to my shoe snobbery, but that doesn’t mean that I actually own expensive shoes. In fact, I think I’m more proud of my clearance purchases then the ones I saved up for. I was at the doctor the other day and the nurse said, “I love your shoes!” and my first response was “Thanks!” Most people would have ended the shoe conversation there, but not shoedish. I, of course, had to add, “I got them for $17 at Aldo.” It’s almost a little too obnoxious, but I can’t help it. People should be proud of their frugality. These pretty perforated ballet flats from Target are only $22.99. Perforated is a new trend, so you might as well buy something cheap to try it out.

There’s a crazy Michael Kors sale going on at Bluefly right now and we were about two clicks away from buying these pretty classic espadrille sandals; we already fell off the wagon once this week. Plus, shoedish got a little shoe karma yesterday when we donated a pair of pretty knee-high boots to our friend at work. We’re downsizing the wardrobe in preparation for our move and we hardly ever wore these boots because of our pointy-toe ‘thing’. It would be a shame to destroy that karma before it became useful, so we resisted. Aren’t they cute? This is a great price for Michael Kors, so if you’re not on a sabbatical from shoe buying, I recommend that you pick up a pair of these.

Big Bird married rubber and look what they had! Ugly banana-yellow jellies!! We were almost ready to support these flats – the strap is pretty cool and unique – and then we realized that our fall off the wagon 2 days ago has us thinking discursively. Enough of the entire relaxed acceptance already, it’s time for shoedish to get her bitch face on. These rubber ballet flats are not cute; it’s like Skins Footwear without the skin, like someone chopped off a chunk of a big tire and painted it yellow. How thick is the material anyway? I used to have a rain coat made of PVC and when I wore it, I thought I was going to die of heat stroke. I can’t imagine wearing these in the summer; as if I didn’t have enough problems with sweaty feet. We don’t approve. Opinions?

So what does Fall 2008 really have in store for all of us shoe lovers? Designers across the board are revealing some of their wonderful ideas for what’s hot for next year’s prologue to winter. Designer sketchers are exaggerated examples of what’s to come, but this furry t-strap platform gives us a little taste of the trends to come. In fact, this sketch pretty much says it all. It’s a no holds bar, anything goes, and luxurious embellishments look at a very exciting season in shoes. Over the last few years, shoes have really started to take center stage in the fashion arena and the brood only gets stronger and stronger. Look for peep-toes, platforms (especially internal platforms), and juicy embellishments like furs, reptile skins, jewels, and even feathers!

Okay, so these are pretty much a fugly ugly disaster, but I did just want to mention them. Has anyone else noticed that the platform shoe is creeping back into the style forefront? I have this horrible feeling that it is, especially after spotting Victoria Beckham and Lindsay Lohan wearing a similar look. So Posh reunites with her Spice Girl cohorts – who famously sported the Euro-pumps back in the 90s – and now we have to bring them back. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wear them back in the day - Sketchers anyone – but I’m not sure we’re ready for round two. The only cool thing about these Jump Shoes is the Chinese lettering that reads “Jump for Humanity”.

Shoedish fell off the wagon yesterday! We might have accidentally bought a new pair of shoes. As you know, we’re supposed to be on a shoe buying hiatus and things were going so well. Don’t you love how I’m able to temper that statement with a “might” and “accidentally”…haha; “definitely did” would be more in order given the situation. That, my shoe friends, is the beauty of rationalizing. Here’s some more rationalizing for you, they’re very practical. How could I not buy a pair of very practical sale shoes? I guess I’m the Lindsay Lohan of shoes.
