The 80th annual Academy Awards are on and you know what that means, right? It’s time for shoedish’s two favorite things - movies and shoes - to come together and dazzle the pants off of us. The Academy Awards represent the best of the best in movies and what do these celebrities do to celebrate their achievements? They wear pretty shoes, of course, what would you do? We’re loving on the Christian Louboutin S&M stiletto’s from the Rodarte fashion show. We’d love it if our favorite Hard Candy star, Ellen Page, would show up on the red carpet wearing them. She’s up for an award for best actress in Juno. But, we’d be less surprised if Victoria Beckham wore them instead. She’s not an actress, but we wouldn’t be surprised if she was there anyway.

It’s been a grand little February, which promises only a better March. If April showers bring May flowers than February fashion previews bring happy spring fashion buys. And the fashion show roundups are starting to ring our shoe bell. The February Fashion Weeks have come or are coming to a close and already we’re seeing a ton of looks we love. Remember when we had the debate about peep-toes and tights, well get ready for a new option as Spring launches the return of sheer tights sans toe seams. You can barely tell that these models are wearing tights, but they are and it looks pretty sweet to us. Also look for hosiery in wild colors and patterns. People say that once a trend catches on it’s already over, but the truth is that trends need room to grow. Tights came back with a vengeance last season and they’ll be sticking around, it’ll just be in a new way.

Valentines’ Day got shoedish all hot and heavy with the pink love - so much for boycotting D-Day - and we’re still feeling the wrath of the pink train. Did you know that Nike makes a special edition sneaker for Cupid’s Party? To think that people were actually arguing with me that Valentine’s Day wasn’t just a commercial fraud. Talk about an amore chokehold. All that said, we still have to post these pink slides from Christian Louboutin. Call it what you want - shoedish has never pretended to be anything but a shoe hypocrite - but Valentine’s Day is over, so these are really just another pair of pink shoes.

Is it just me or do these look like a shoe fit for grandma? Not that grandma can’t wear pretty peep-toe heels, but it’s a surprising look coming off the Manolo Blahnik sculpture block. I totally get that the roaring 20s and swinging 60s are all the rage this year - don’t even get me started on the summer collection from Christina Dior - but I’m not sure how I feel about this shoe. I think it would be great if Gramdish would wear these shoes, but I also know that Manolo isn’t marketing to a Mainiac in the sticks, so I’m curious as to what age group these are targeting? I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s mine and me no likey. Thoughts? Opinions?

Can we please have a serious discussion about these shoes from Nine West? They’re everything that shoedish loves in one little peep-toe package. I mean, it even has a hidden 1/2-inch platform so you really only have to teeter on a 3 1/2-inch heel rather than 4. Okay, so maybe that’s not much of a platform, but did you notice they’re green!? Green suede, I might add. We love them! Love! Hey, if you got a problem with green, we’ll fight you. No, we tease, but they have them in orange suede too. Weren’t we telling you about all the skittle-do colors of spring and summer? I think it’s time to hop on the color train and gobble up some rainbow.

Giuseppe Zanotti is kicking it with color this spring and you might as well hop on board because they’re bringing it all the way into summer and fall. Spikes, chain mail, and leather aren’t the only looks for 2008. Designers are still obsessing over the skittle-do 80s comeback and patent pizzazz isn’t going out without a fight. You know how much shoedish likes her green, but when it’s paired with red and yellow, well, that’s just a whole other ball game. We’re crushing on these peep-toe slingbacks, though we do need to try them on for size. There is something bugging us about the vamp; too little peep-toe, too high on the quarter? Thoughts? They’re probably just right, but we need to be sure before we give it out final stamp of shoepproval.
