Shoedish receives a lot of mail regarding shoes - everything from questions on trends to opinions on posts - but someone recently asked us a question that we didn’t automatically have a response to. The question: “If you were a shoe, what shoe would you be? I responded immediately with, “A mary jane.” Duh, anyone who reads my blog knows that. But, then I realized that saying I’d be a mary jane would be like saying I’d be a cat, or white, or a million other nondescript characteristics. “If I was a shoe what shoe would I be?” This was a hard one. Christian Dior makes some of my favorite shoes, but they’re too perfect, and I’m certainly no model. The type of shoe I am isn’t necessarily the type of shoe I want to be, but it has to represent me in some way. I’m creative and maybe a little quirky. I’m honest, or at least I’m horrible at faking pleasantness if I’m in a wicked mood or if I just don’t like you. I like to think I’m punchy, in a good way (most of the time) and a little peppery (not always in a good way). I strive for uniqueness and at the end of the day I don’t care what anyone else thinks. I picked these mary janes from Eley Kishimoto because they’re punchy, unique, and quirky. Now, if only I were this cute!

“I have been making a special pair of shoes to be worn at the Academy Awards for a number of years. This year - more so than in any previous year - the lady who was given the opportunity to wear it was quite involved in the design process. Diablo Cody sent me examples of the type of shoes she liked and actually did the final selection herself, choosing a three-inch retro style T-strap as well as a changeover pair of ballerinas.” The designer also adds, “She chose to adorn the shoes with medium-sized diamond roses from three different sizes offered to her. Why she seems to be so surprised as to the attention being paid to her and these shoes, I cannot answer. It should certainly come as no surprise that a one-of-a-kind pair of shoes would generate excitement at the Academy Awards.” - TMZ reports. We must give props to Stuart for taking the relatively higher rode that Cody as he adds, “Regardless, what should matter is the fact that this talented woman won an Oscar this weekend. I offered her the opportunity initially because I so enjoyed her film, and I’m very happy for her success. I wish her all the best.”

I’ll probably never get over the fact that Crocs and Ugg have become the footwear choice of millions, but I will give these conglomerates extra props for expanding their collections to include friendly casual everyday footwear. Their business strategies are clearly rock solid. We’ll say this much for these kitten-wedge thongs from Ugg Australia, they’re probably pretty comfy! Simple for summer and strappy to meet the trends, these flips have something most thongs don’t, a furry cushion under the hood. Get your head out of the gutter; these sandals are comfortable and dare I say it, cute. Oye! I never thought I’d see the day. Maybe there is hope for Stevie Shoe Wonder. I wouldn’t hold your breath; he’s still on shoedish’s hit list.

Today, shoedish paid the deposit on her Spanish lessons, which she’ll begin next Monday. EEEEK! We’re so excited! I was feeling so proud of myself until I got back on the metro carrying my Level 1 Spanish books and was greeted by strange stares. It was like I’d suddenly gone from curious tourist to stupid foreigner. So, how does shoedish solve problems that are seemingly out of her control? Shoes, of course, and I guess I couldn’t really call myself a Barcelonian/ite/native if I didn’t post one of the most popular Spanish shoe stores in Barca. I’m not a huge fan of Camper myself, at least from what I’ve see thus far, but I do think these are pretty cute. A little school girl cute meets kitschy. Thoughts? Do you think if I can say “Me llamo shoedish” and I buy these shoes, I can call myself a true Spaniard? I guess not, but for the next six months, I’ll be telling myself that.

We LOVE these gorgeous pink platform pumps from Nicholas Kirkwood. How could you not? They’re tasty delicious and as pink as pink can be. The delicate lizard-print overlay on the straps give them just enough slithery goodness for the 2008 fashion season. These shoes would be the perfect addition to any black outfit; a little pop for your peds! Available at Browns Fashion for 410 euros (about $615 US).
