“Dear Shoedish - My daughter is going to be in her first tap dancing performance this upcoming Easter Weekend and we’ve just been asked by her instructor to have her tap shoes “glittered”. The instructor and other moms said that I can just buy glittery spray paint and spray them, but that seems crazy. Call me cheap, but I’m not going to ruin a brand new pair of tap shoes. We don’t have to do it, but I don’t want her to be the only one without her shoes glittered. There must be another way. Can you help?”
This isn’t exactly an area of shoedish’s expertise, but it just so happens that in our youth we too had to decorate our tap shoes with glitter for performances. Here’s what we’d do. It’s not a permanent fix, but it won’t ruin your existing shoe unlike some processes like spray painting. And yes, we do think it’s crazy to ruin a pair of perfectly good shoes by spray panting them. Spray painting? Seriously? We also think that your instructor should allow you another option; maybe someone needs to tell her about this. We’d love to see pictures of the final product. Good luck!!
What you need: Elmer’s glue or spray glue, masking tape, glitter, polyurethane spray, newspaper.
1) Stuff the shoes with newspaper. 2) Tape the entire surface area (except the sole and heel) with masking tape. 3) Use spray glue or spread a thin layer of Elmer’s glue over the entire are that needs to be “glittered”. 4) Add glitter and let dry for 2 hours. 5) Spray with polyurethane and let dry overnight.
To remove, just pull off the tape strips and use baby oil or WD-40 to remove excess tape strips and sticky marks.

It’s almost Easter! Shoedish has now been living in Barcelona for about 7 weeks and we’re already learning lost of new things. We try our very best not to be an “ignorant American” but it is a bit of a culture shock over here on the other side of the pond. I’ll taper that statement by expressing how good of a culture shock it has been. One of our favorite new things are the personal ice bags, but that’s a whole other story. Our current favorite thing is the decorative chocolate sculptures for Easter. They’re fantabulous. They look almost too good to eat…almost. Here’s the shoedish Easter Shoe Roundup for the upcoming holiday. Don’t have your easter bonnet, lace clutch and matching gloves, or your shoes yet? Well, you better get on your bunny and stock up on some pretty pastels and skittle patents. These will get your holiday weekend off to a happy hard-boiled egg and chocolate bunny ear kind of weekend. A subtle art deco pump from Miu Miu and a colorful screamer from Christian Louboutin. Which would you prefer?

We love Diane Keaton. Besides that disasterous misstep as the overbearing and crazy mother in Becasue I Said So, she’s a fantastic actress. Who doesn’t love Annie Hall? She’s always been a bit “eclectic” with her wardrobe choices. There’s nothing wrong with being a little unique, but she walks the line of matronly like it’s her job. Really? She’s a beautiful woman who looks really fabulous for her age and yet she’s the definition of dowdy. She might as well wear a towel over her head and plastic bags on her feet. And the shoes!! Oy! Someone please let shoedish talk to her stylist. I’m sorry, call me a shoe nazi, but no shoes at a gas station?

Maybe it’s just our severe aversion to pointy-toe heels that makes us feel the need to run screaming toward the hillside. That and the kitten heel. Two of shoedish’s most hated characteristics together in one shoe. Don’t misunderstand, we think that kitten heels serve a purpose and we think everyone (except us) looks pretty darn cute in point-toed heels, but this particular shoe from Prada scares the shoe out of us. There’s a lot going on here, but gaudy shoes aren’t always bad. In fact, these shoes would fit in quite perfectly in Barcelona. So, what is the problem? You tell me. Thoughts? Opinions? Why does shoedish dislike this shoe?

Tis the season to prom. Oh, how shoedish misses the days of dressing up in beautiful gowns. There’s nothing better than up-dos and new shoes. Of all the things we miss from high school, dressing up for formals in on the top of the list. “Back in the days when I was young, I’m not a kid anymore, but some days I sit and wish I was a kid again.” All this week shoedish will be posting pretty prom shoes for our readers who are still of prom age and - let’s be honest here - for those of us who are still very young at heart. These pretty heels come in tons of colors giving you the ability to match your dress color. Shoedish was never a fan of matchy matchy, but we get the appeal.
*These would be cute for bridesmaids as well.
