Marc Jacobs started it with his bootiewarmer shoes; a sock or legwarmer crossed with a bootie or mary jane to make a boot and they were cool, unique, just funky enough without bin completely ridiculous. They came, they were seen, they were conquered? Or were they? Don’t be too sure shoe friends. Sockboots may be down, but they are certainly not out. FALKE, the German hosiery and legwear brand, collaborated with Hussein Chalayan to create a range of sock boots exclusively for the designer’s autumn/winter 2008-09 show in Paris and shoedish likey! This is one of those looks that only needs a little push to get the yarn rolling. We expect (and hope) this look to come full circle by the time were buying up boots for the winter. Thoughts?

Shoedish loves a wild color combination, especially when it’s as unexpected and wry as this. Orange is going to be a big color for spring and summer, so it is only natural that it will carry into fall as well. These spectator wedges from Taryn Rose are sleek, sophisticated, and charming, which is a word we very rarely use to describe our shoe love, but by adding a feminine flare to shapes and styles that used to be strictly for the boys these wedges have certainly charmed us. These remind us a little bit of the shoes that Whitney from The Hills was wearing when she helped Sass & Bride with their fitting in New York. Her oxfords were flat (she’s tall, so she can pull it off). We’re happy to see designers experimenting with more color; a little splash of paint never hurt anyone.

Yesterday we posted about ankle socks and were bombarded with questions on how and with what to wear them with. While I must first say that the beauty of fashion is that there aren’t any “rules”, I do see your point wear ankle socks are concerned. One shoedish friend wrote that she thinks that trend “looks great on everyone else”, but that it makes her “look like she’s 12”, while others wondered at what age the ankle sock trend is no longer an option. Well, the best way to wear ankle socks is with a classic pump or oxford; mary janes and dollies are cute as well, but can make you feel more school girl than just a simple round-toe pump. The runways are littered with platform sandals paired with socks, but there is only a small minority of the population who are comfortable with this trend. Pair them with some tailored mini shorts and oxford or a shift dress and round-toe pumps. The key here is to avoid all the stereotypical Catholic school girl clothing articles so that you don’t look like your going to a theme party. Take any leg-bearing outfit that you’d wear pumps with and try adding a sock. It may look strange to you at first, but think of all the crazy things you’ve worn through the ages. The truth is, you’ll probably regret this one eventually too. Here’s a few ways shoedish might wear them:

*Oh, and for that age limit question. Everyone reaches an age where they can no longer wear the things they once wore, but it’s different for everyone. I’m not about to tag ankle socks with an age limit for fear of the backlash, but this is a very “trendy” trend so the limit is a little lower than that of other trend experiments.

Who’s lovin’ on Lanvin? I am, I am!! Shoedish just can’t get enough of the shoes coming off the blocks at Lanvin this summer, from glittery pumps to bow-vamped flats and all the prettiest pedeliciousness in between. Here’s a little twist on the gladiator sandal; these platform gladiator sandals have battled their way right into 2008! Canvas platform, leather sole, and available in mediterranean blue!! Lanvin locked in our devotion years ago. They secured that love with their satin-yellow pumps ala Ashley Simpson, and now they’ve thrown away the key with a gladiator platform. Lanvin knows how to screw with our shoe emotions. We thought that no one played the shoe game better than shoedish, but I think it’s safe to say that we’ve been played. We feel used! Someone better buy us these shoes asap before we go into shoe stocker mode.

Last year we saw ruffles gracing the vamps and heels of some of Miu Miu’s prettiest heels and this year Poetic Licence has taken the reins of the feminine ruffle horse with these absolutely romantic pumps from their Fall/Winter Collection. They fit their brand name after all - Poetic License certainly signals classic romance - cuing Shakespeare, poet shirts, and…well, of course ruffles. These heels pay attention to a couple important styles for Fall 2008; color blocking and menswear are only the tip of the iceberg. We were drooling over the designer version last year, so we’re happy to know there is a version in our price range now, as well. Forget ruffle ankle socks, these pretty peep-toe pumps from Poetic Licence are all-in-one.

There is nothing that shoedish loves more than a pair of vintage shoes. If the chances of someone else owning them are slim to none, we are ALL over that. The only reason we’re being even remotely generous with this tidbit of Christinan Dior ebay information (and not just buying them ourselves) is that these beauties, quite unfortunately, are not our size. It’s a pitty and a shame, really, the brood was really looking forward to a new sisterwife husbandbrother. Alas, we put them in your hands with great vengeance and curious evil…or, I mean, we give them to you with our blessing to bid; bid away to Christian Diorville. After all, these vintage croc pump shoe booties retailed for $1500 and the starting bid here is only $350.
