Have you heard enough yet about gladiator sandals? I didn’t think so, that’s why I’m posting these metallic gladiator sandals from Modern Vintage available at Intermix Online. These babies are complete with a a metallic faux snakeskin, with the darker tone added to the front flap in order to complete that “color blocking” theme for 2008. How much more trendy can you get than that? The darker tone also adds to create a more natural look in contrast to the metallic. What a better world it would be if snakes actually came in metallic. Until evolution gets there at least we have these.

Surf’s up shoes dudes! Today is like a totally awesome ride through surfer heaven with all the ragin’ beach wear we’ve been posting and we’re happy to bring these sidewalk surfers from Sanuk to the table as well. Sanuk is a different kind of shoe company, one which favors a relaxed luxury free from the clutches of the mainstream. Americans work too hard anyway, and Sanuk aims to be the Google of shoe companies. Office protocol favors the forgiveness of tardiness if one has the excuse that they were surfing (and we don’t mean the web, man). Sanuk, after all, is the Thai word for “pursuit of happiness”. We can get down with that! 2008 marks Sanuk’s 8th year and you know how shoedish loves supporting the young underdogs. We’ll be purchasing these casual flat sidewalk surfers very shortly.

When shoedish was in college, Rainbow Sandals were all the rage on campus. Everyone wanted them and everyone had them. Shoedish will always remember her first pair of Rainbow’s. Momma Shoedish and Papa Shoe bought them for freshman shoedish when they were down for parent’s weekend. Momma Shoedish was shocked at the price - you want me to pay $$$$ for flip flops? But, Rainbow Sandals give “flip fop” a whole new meaning. They are a little bit pricey…but if you pay over $10 for rubber flip flops, you can scrounge for a nice pair of leather ones. Besides, my first pair lasted me all the way through my undergrad years…and they would have made it further had they met their unfortunate fate between the teeth of a young puppy.

Shoedish’s love hate relationship with Irregular Choice has never ben a secret. In fact, it’s practically a rule we live by. The love is always stronger than the hate of course - shoe papa always told us that no one was worth the energy of hate - so “hate” is a word we use rather loosely. In the case of these platforms thongs with split toe socks from Irregular Choice - a twist on the Japanese Geta shoe - we’re not hating so much as questioning this rather odd, though culturally traditional look. We’ve always considered split toe socks to be a rather strange accessory and socks with sandals is an age-old fashion no. However, with the new trends leaning toward freeing this look to the masses - anklets with sandals, sockboots, and warmer booties - the sandal with sock look might not be all the “irregular” after all. We’re not sold on platform thong with split toe socks yet. You? Are these a “yay” or “double nay”? Opinions please?
