platform mary janes from michael antonio

Originally uploaded by shoedish

Here’s a fun pair of platform mary janes for all my shoe fiends out there. These pretty and affordable mary janes from Michael Antonio come in a slew of fun color blocking schemes, including purple, grey, black, and silver, grey, black. Shoedish is a fan of the white, red, and beige option shown on the model here, but there’s no doubt there is a color combination for everyone. We’re loving the mirrored cone shaped heel and the color blocking, which are two very important trends for the 2008 shoe season. Don’t be alarmed by the name - ‘Toxxic’ refers merely to the sexiness of these platform mary janes - it does not allude to any horrifying news of a forthcoming Brit Brit shoe line.

designer challenge: balenciaga vs the world

Originally uploaded by shoedish

Today has turned into the day of the knockoffs, designer challenge Monday, or the day of the separated-at–shoe-birth explosion. We don’t really have control over this. The Shoe Dish is merely a medium; the voice of the shoes. The shoes speak through us and we are extraordinarily happy to be the shoe whisperer. It seems a little bit late for this knock-off to be making the rounds, but Nine West, Go Jane, and Steve Madden have all jumped aboard the separated-at-birth wagon and designed there own versions of the lace-up peep-toe bootie from Balenciaga’s Fall 2007 collection. The Nine West versions are, surprisingly, the weakest knock-offs compared to Steve Madden’s and Go Janes rather remarkable reproductions. Go Jane wins with the cheapest copycat, while loyal followers of Steve Madden will swear by his “comfort”. To note, Steve Madden is also releasing a copycat version of the infamous ‘Lego’ shoe that Balenciaga had in his runway collection that fall as well.

steve madden peep-toe bootie

Every once in a great while, shoedish must admit to her like of a Steve Madden shoe and today that day has come. These pretty purple peep-toe booties from Steve Madden’s Fall Collection will be available in mid-May and we’re considering putting ourselves on the pre-order list. These purple suede booties are perfect for the upcoming fall and fit a number of shoe trends, including the most important and current, the peep-toe bootie. Available in a number of colors and complete with a strap-slouched side, these shoes almost make us forgive all of Steve Madden’s faults. On second thought, we don’t have to forgive SM to rationalize the purchase of these shoes. It isn’t the shoes fault, after all, that they’re daddy is the kind of designer knockoff footwear.

designer challenge: separated-at-birth, zinc vs christian dior

christian-dior-dc.pngzinc-dc.jpg

These gorgeous woven platform pumps were a fantasy of shoedish’s after they appeared on the Christian Dior Fall 2007 runway and like clockwork, we’re now obsessed with a new shoe from CD’s Fall 2008 runway…but, until we focus our attention there, let’s go back…way back in time, and focus on these brown beauties. We were doing our regular shoe tour this morning when we stumbled upon these pretty woven platforms from Cutesy Shoes and realized we never did do a designer copycat shoe for those coveted Christian Dior’s. Better late than never. These woven platforms from Zinc are just over $100, slight in comparison to the $800 designer version from Christian Dior. Just to note, woven is still very much in - if not more so than its debut last season - so you’re still free to buy these shoes at will. We would!

ashlee simpson in yves saint laurent ‘tribute’ platforms

Shoedish loves her a little Yves Saint Laurent action and these ‘Tribute’ platform sandals are on our YSL wishlist. The ‘tribute’ first came to town in the 2007 shoe season with a monstrous peep-toe hooker platform that donned the feet of some of Hollywoods most trusted Celebrity Shoe Stars like Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, and Eva Longoria-Parker, but the sandal version is floating our shoe boot even farther than the closed version. These YSL platform sandals are a favorite of YSL shoe lover, Ashley Simpson (shown on her in blue), and will make every outfit - whether you’re just wearing a simple t-shirt and jeans or a sexy cocktail dress - pop. We want them!!!!
