industry news: dsw vs zappos

type-z.jpgchinese-laundry.png

There’s a power struggle in the footwear industry today and DSW and Zappos are the main players. DSW filed a suit on Monday against Zappos for the misuse of DSW marks. The suit seeks an injunction and damages resulting from the alleged misuse of the DSW name in several URLs and a misrepresentation of DSW store photographs, which DSW claims acted to mislead consumers into believing they were on a DSW-related Website. Hmmm…tricky, tricky. Bad Zappos! “We intend to rigorously defend and protect our intellectual property and our brand against any sort of misuse,” DSW SVP and General Counsel Bill Jordan said in a written statement Monday. “It is unacceptable, and we will not hesitate to pursue our legal rights in matters of this sort.” Shoedish hasn’t personally researched evidence of the misuse, but this is quite interesting coming off the heels of DSW’s new online boutique, which they launched less than a month ago on April 23rd. We’ll have to see how this one plays out. In the meantime, we’ll support both sites by promoting one pretty shoe from each. From Zappos we have a nice little peep-toe mary jane from Type Z and from DSW we have these woven Chinese Laundry sandals. Let’s bring peace and order back to the shoe world!

industry news: crocs inc.’s jibbitz llc

Originally uploaded by shoedish

It’s a lawsuit kind of day here at The Shoe Dish. Phew! For all you Crocs fans out there, Jibbitz are nothing new, but did you know that Crocs Inc.’s Jibbitz LLC unit just won a $56 million copyright and trademark infringement case against China-based exporter and manufacturer Jinjiang Huakai Shoes & Garments Co. This is the second judgment in favor of Jibbitz in a year. In May of last year, they were awarded $1.8 million in an infringement case against Joinworld Industrial & Trading Ltd. Who new Jibbitz were so important? These little decorative poms were created to help increase the aesthetics of what would normally be a very ugly rubber boat shoe. Okay, so they’re still pretty ugly, Jibbitz or not, but these are about the only thing that could make us even consider buying a pair of Crocs; we’re suckers for cute and girly little accessories. What can we say. If we were still ugly with makeup, that wouldn’t stop us from wearing it.

wacky wednesday: cesare paciotti

Originally uploaded by shoedish

Sit down, we need to talk. Sit down, it’s just a talk. Yesterday we showed off some pretty pretty green stilettos from Cesare Paciotti that seemed to be channeling the big frog himself, Kermit. Today, as promised, we’re bringing you another great shoe from Cesare Paciotti’s summer collection and this time CP seems to be channeling something else altogether. We’ll call it “wacky” but that doesn’t mean we don’t like it. This is following suit with the very real return of the punk-grunge trend. Oh yes, my shoe friends, it’s coming back with a vengeance and Cesare Paciotti has jumped on board with his spectacularly (there’s that word again) femme fatale grunge version of the bootie. These heavy metal booties are complete with a rose brooch – just for good measure – but the conjuring up of the electric Kool-Aide acid test remains supreme. Call us crazy, but this is a drug we’d be willing to take. We’ll follow Cesare Paciotti down the rabbit hole.

macy’s 50% off sale: sam edelman and bcbg

bcbg-oxford.jpegsam-edelman.jpeg

It’s a super duper footwear sale over at Macy’s! Buy one shoe and get the second for 50% off. Well, okay, if you say so. Two shoes, two shoes! If you could buy two pairs of shoes from the selection at Macy’s, what would they be? Shoedish just went through the entire collection herself and we chose these oxford gone feminine sandals from BCBG and these perforated yellow slingback wedges from Sam Edelman. Good choice! Good Choice! It’s a twin sale over at Macy’s; me thinks that someone knew about the twin birthday extravaganza going on at The Shoe Dish and wanted to help us celebrate. Awwww! They shouldn’t have.

poetic licence’s new online boutique

Originally uploaded by shoedish

As you very well know, shoedish has a love hate relationship with Irregular Choice. Irregular Choice is perhaps the only brand on the market to do that is representative of the true independence and choice of unique quality footwear. Its sister brand, Poetic License, shares this vision of unique lifestyle branding and while there are oodles of boutique shops for the shoe aficionado, there is nothing like the IC and PL online boutiques. These stores are couture avant-garde for half the price. Annointed the “place to shoe yourself” by the celebrity-chic design team at Heatherette these twin brands deserve all the attention – love or hate – in the world. Check out the new online store for Poetic Licence today and while you’re there pick up these turquoise striped-wedge sandals.

animal-print sandal booties from bebe

Originally uploaded by shoedish

How much fun is this shoe from Bebe? Shoedish loves!!! We are starting to get a little obsessed with this whole shoe-gone-bootie look. We’re not sure when this wild crossbreed stole over our little black shoe hearts, but we’re in love! Hey, as long as roses can be born tye-died, beagles can mate with pugs and churros are dipped in chocolate, shoedishi will think sandal booties are an acceptable form of mating. You can’t choose who you love; you just do!

These animal-print sandal booties are available at Bebe online for $179.
