‘opinions please’ friday: prada

Originally uploaded by shoedish

Prada has been channeling the Wizard of Oz and its whole crew of too-deep-and-much-too-scary-for-children’s fairy tale stories in its wickedly cool shoe campaign. The classic look of shoes past has been replaced by heel love and the most exotic shapes and prints on the market. Prada’s trip down the rabbit hole was met by the electric Kool Aide acid test and a quick stop back off at the mad hatters tea party. Phew! It’s been quite a trip alright! These gold and black piping platforms have that interestingly placed ankle strap that’s been popping up on a lot of shoes for this fall and shoedish still hasn’t quite jumped on the cut-me-off-so-I’m-real-short train just yet. Thoughts? Opinions?

in her shoes: breaking in your stilettos

Originally uploaded by shoedish

There’s nothing that women love more than their high heels. High heels are forgiving of every figure and no matter what your size or shape, a heel will always make you feel good about yourself. From fictional characters like Carrier Bradshaw on Sex and the City to real life shoe fiends like Kelly Ripa, shoes are a source of inspiration and delirium. A coveted source of appeal to women of all ages, shoes play an important role in our everyday lives, so it’s important that we feel comfortable in them. Walking in a pair of heels, especially a brand new pair, can be difficult. Many women struggle with stilettos, tagging them their “one hour shoes”, but heels don’t have to be a pain in the foot. Check out the new In Her Shoes column for your guide on how to break in your heels so they’re comfortable for a whole day of prancing.

cesare paciotti week: lady in red

TGIF fellow shoe lovers!! Today is the final day of Cesare Paciotti Week, which might have some of you shaking with delight. Cesare Paciotti didn’t get the most warm and fuzzy welcome here. In fact, it seems quite certain that shoedish stands alone in her like. Maybe these red sandal stilettos will peek your interest enough to change your first impression? Talk about heel love, the stiletto adorning these sandals is fit for the queen of bling and the red snakeskin is sexy and sophisticated. We’ll admit that Cesare Paciotti has a lot of funk and trend going on throughout his collection, from sandal booties to slinky half d’orsays, but these lady in red sandals are a more classic look from the lab of Cesare Paciotti. Thoughts? Opinions?

Raffia isn’t just your old standby this summer, she’s making a big play for leading lady and we’re happy to support the Moroccan princess as she moves up the chain of command, These t-strap thongs are a simple and casual sandal, but the mosaic pattern of the straps sends you to the ancient cities of Fes and Marrakech where the raffia babouches have reigned incomparable for centuries.

embellished sandals from roberto cavalli

Originally uploaded by shoedish

This season, with the help of the gladiator trend, ankle strap are crawling higher and higher up the ankle and shoedish is certainly not thrilled with this look. We love these over embellished sandals from Roberto Cavalli - the red on black and the strappy delightfulness of the vamp - but we could definitely do without that chop-your-legs-off design of the ankle straps. A very small minority of the shoe wearing population is able to pull off an ankle strap that sits above your ankle bone, which puts these shoes even farther out of reach then they already were.
