ask shoedish: you by crocs

The Shoe Dish reader, Meg, asked us what we thought of the YOU by Crocs collection. The shoes in question are these pretty, green, pumps from their spring collection. Our response is below, but we thought we’d open it up to readers. Anyone have these or another shoe from the YOU collection? Or do you just have a general opinion on Crocs? We’d love to hear your thoughts.

Meg: “Hi, My friend came home from Colorado wearing You’s green venice heels. She claims they are comfortable, they looked cute with her jeans on, but I am hesitant! I had to share with some of my fave shoe blogs to see if any had actually tried them?!”

Shoedish: As much as we despise the look of the original Croc, we do understand its mass appeal. If we were going on a three month sailing expedition or lived 6 months of the year at our grandparents cabin in the willy wacks of Maine, we might (might!) consider buying them, but for absolutely no other reason than the two listed above.

However, when it comes to the You Collection, we must admit that we’ve been rather impressed. Who knew that the creators of the modern boat shoe would have it in them to design a line of trend conscious footwear? Emerald green, patent, round-toe, mary jane, and a slingback? What’s not to like? We’re very stubborn, but even we can understand why you’d be feeling a slight pull. They’re cute, we admit. We probably won’t be running out to buy them, they still seem a bit expensive for a cookie cutter girly chic pump, but we approve wholeheartedly none-the-less. Just promise you won’t get sucked into buying the original boat shoe Croc (or if you do, don’t tell us about it :) )

The summer collection, particularly the gladiator sandals (which are named after our favorite Greek island) aren’t bad either. We’d steer clear of the wedges, though, they look like the products of a serious miscommunication between designers.
