Last year we posted Christian Louboutin’s fetish heels which were being both critically acclaimed and witch hunted with burning stakes and pitch forks all at the same time. Christian Louboutin had created his shoes for an art exhibit and had stated, quite matter-of-factly, that they were not designed to be of use in the everyday. Looks like someone didn’t get the memo. Beyonce and her dancers wore the pointe stilettos in a music video, but we’ll still classify that as “artistic representation”. It’s one thing to grin and bear it for a fashion, but these shoes aren’t even pretty or sexy or any other word you equate with good shoes. They just look bizarre and “costumey” and…well, fetish. Well, I guess that is the point, after all, no offense to those who use these in “play”, but thank God this look hasn’t caught on in Hollywood as an actual fashion trend…or have we spoken to soon? Knock on wood.

Here’s more proof that shoedish is getting old. Last night we spoke to Momma Shoedish, courtesy of Skype, about a new pair of shoes we recently purchased. Living in Spain makes buying shoes in the US rather difficult, so we have Momma Shoedish order them for us. She informed us previously via email that the shoes had arrived and that we’d “love” them. MS has good shoe taste as well (it’s in the blood). Anyhoot, she was planning on bringing them with her when she comes to visit in July.
Momma Shoedish: Did you get my email about the shoes?
Shoedish: Yes, but don’t bring them with you.
Momma Shoedish: Why?
Shoedish: Because that’s stupid. I’ll only be able to wear them for 3 weeks and then I’ll just have to find space for them to get them home.
Momma Shoedish: But I thought you wanted them?
Shoedish: I do, but I already have too much crap and I don’t want to deal with them.
Wha? Oh, my!!! What has happened to us? The young shoedish would never have passed on her new shoes; she would have found a way to make it work. We are a pathetic old shoe fart…

The Shoe Dish and her twin in all things shoe have officially marked the 2008 birthday calendar. Shoedish turned and year older and a shoe day wiser today. Yay! and Eeek! This was not a super thrilling fantastical and exciting birthday for us. Last year was cool; nothing special really, but cool enough. But this new age is sitting well with us. Shoedish is now convinced that she is officially getting old. It’s only a few years now until we start calling our coveted stilettos our “one hour” shoes and opting on flats as an everyday shoe option. Is it cliche of me to equate this with getting older? Probably, but the thought exhausts me. Oh, it hurts my little black shoe heart to think of it. I know it’s stupid, call it the disease of the quarter life, but I can’t bear the thought of a life in kitten heels and loafers.
