what brands will survive a recession

Originally uploaded by shoedish

The sinking economy is taking its toll as big corporations - Bennigan’s closed all of its doors effective immediately in a surprise shut down yesterday - begin to collapse, file for chapter 11 - Mervyn’s family discount super store filed for liquidation yesterday - or take a lighter approach to promotions and marketing schemes - Jil Sanders is set to be sold…again, it seems that the true economy slow down is hitting the affordable brand market harder than anyone, while high street designers seem to be equalizing or spiking in profits. Coach saw a 33 % increase in quarter profit shares, logging a 20% jump in sales, while Kenneth Cole busies themselves naming big-time marketing executive, Kristen Dykstra, as chief marketing officer of the brand. Mid-luxury brands are the safest place to be in the event of recession. Consumer focus groups say that “it will get worse before it gets better and that they intend to spend less over the next 12 months at retail.” Buckle up.

*Featured boot is the ‘Winslow’ from the Coach fall collection. Available for $398.

What can we say about these gorgeous heels from Charles David that they aren’t already busy saying for themselves. Oh, how shoedish loves the Charles David! Every time we see a shoe from the master of the boot we melt away to a place that feels safe. They’re all perfectly crafted with classic and clean lines and wonderfully trendy embellishments and every other perfectly well-rounded thing you can ask for in a mate. One of the best things about Charles David is that they’re one of the only mid-range shoe designers on the market. In other words, CD makes shoes that are just out of our price range - unless we’re lucky with a sale - but so close to it that we can almost taste the metallic leather in our mouths. Charles David? You big tease!
