Here’s an example of designer collaborations going terribly wrong. Why do designers insist on trying to bring back the awful platform tennis shoe from the late 90s. Ahhh! This is Posh Spice - pre Spice Girls golden era and style makeover - gone wrong. Designer Sergio Rossi has teamed up with sportswear superstars, Puma, to design a capsule footwear collection and this is one of the two styles they’ve come up with. Puma’s legendary ‘Clyde’ sneaker has now been Sergio Rossified into an ugly reinterpretation of that awful old school sneaker-heel trend that didn’t work the first time around. Shoedish loves both Sergio Rossi and Puma, but we’re thinking they should keep to themselves when it comes to designing shoe collections, because this is just not working. If, God forbid, you like what you see, these shoes will be sold exclusively at Colette.

And the Celebrity Shoe Star is…the beautiful, sexy, and talented, Rihanna! We were actually shocked to realize that we hadn’t included Rihanna in our Celebrity Shoe Star yet! When we realized it, though, we remedied the disaster immediately! Rihanna might be the one celebrity out there that we admire for both her character and shoedrobe. She wears all the classics and can pull off the wild wear too and that is an impressive little shoe star, indeed. Rihanna is a triple threat celebrity with model, songstress, and designer titles under her belt as well as a coveted 4 number ones on the Billboard Hot 100 list, which ties her to singing divas Mariah Carey and Beyonce. We see a future filled with big things for this young celebrity and we can’t wait to see the shoes she wears to keep walking toward the top.

We’re not sure about the name of this shoe; is this supposed to be a chastity belt for your feet? And if so, can someone please explain why anyone would want to “wrap it up” when it comes to your peds? A pun? A play on words? Maybe shoedish just isn’t bright enough to get the intruding metaphor. We’re not in the mood for our shoes to be more clever than us. Shoedish is a little bitchy this morning - how charming - and we’re not sure why. There’s nothing wrong with these strappy sandal booties from Dolce Vita. In fact, we love, love, love them. Who knew that an over-strapped sandal could turn into a shoe bootie? So, what’s with the attitude? We guess that whole Olsen meets Madden news is beginning to sink in; that and we burned our tongue on our coffee after spending half an hour pumping up the tires on our bike with a partially broken pump. Ho hum, if someone wants to buy us these shoes, that might make our day just a bit brighter. Any takers?

Shoedish visited her local Payless with Momma Shoedish this weekend and shoedish was shocked by what she encountered. We’re usually on the side of affordable shoe superstore, Payless, but it seems they’re taking a cue from Steve Madden’s business book and upping the prices like wild hogs. Lordy! L warned us that things had gotten expensive while we were taking our big long breath across the pond, but we didn’t see this one coming. Since when do people go to Payless and pay $40 for a shoe? Hello, it’s Payless!! We love you you Payless - we’ve always been a huge fan - but when we stumbled across these great fall booties only to have the rug ripped out from under us after looking at the price, you’ve made our hit list. Seriously?
*It’s a good thing that BOGO starts today; that’s the only thing that’s saving them from being written off completely.

We think that it’s just the angle of this picture that’s making these yellow lacquered heels from Ed Hardy so Ronald-McDonald-like and if they’re just the typical classical cut pump than we commend the brand. Adding a platform and a shiny bright color to a contemporary heel is about as creative as you can get, but hey, you might as well stick to what works. What shoedish thinks would be even better, however, is if the Ed Hardy team took that interesting pattern from the inside of the sole and painted that on the vamp and quarter. Now that, my shoe friends, would be creative. Oh well, I guess we can’t all be geniuses when it coms to shoes and I guess that tiger detail on the heel scores some points. Light reflecting patents in the form of bright colors, shiny lacquers, and light reflecting metallic will be big once again next spring and these Ed Hardy pumps, available in five nail polish brights, will only be the tip of the iceberg.

This makes shoedish feel nauseated; we’re this close to projectile vomiting all over our stilettos. It has been rumored for months now that the pint-sized celebrities, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, were in talks with Steve Madden to create a branded contemporary footwear line for their deluxe clothing brand, Elizabeth and James, and the rumors have come full circle. “We are excited to partner with Steve Madden to create the new Elizabeth and James footwear line,” Mary-Kate enthused in a release last Wednesday. “With their proven experience in all aspects of design, production, and distribution, we intend to take the contemporary shoe market to a new level.” Ashley adds, “Mary-Kate and I found Steve Madden to truly understand our design philosophy and how we want this brand to grow over the coming years. They have the resources and talent to help execute our vision for the Elizabeth and James brand.” Steve Madden is like Victor Newman; everyone seems to forget all those really bad, business related, messes he got into a few years back. “Contemporary shoe market to a whole new level”???? If that means copying designer trends, MK and Ash, you’ve found your man. The Elizabeth and james footwear line from Steve Madden is expected to launch for spring 2009. We wait with bated breath…
