Will your holiday shopping be effected by the economy? “Current financial pressures and a lack of confidence in the economy will force shoppers to be very conservative in their holiday spending,” said National Retail Federation chief economist, Rosalind Wells, in a recent statement. “We expect consumers to be very frugal this season and less willing to splurge on discretionary items.” The NRF predicted that there will be a meager 2.2 % increase in the 2008 holiday shopping season. Economic strife and the housing crisis, along with growing unemployment rates and high food and energy costs are what lead to the below average predictions.
