If you thought that gladiators were a one hit wonder, think again. The spring 2009 runway shows from New York to Milan prove that this feisty classic is here to stay and with the struggling economy and the new trend of eco-conscious consumerism, buyers are looking for versatility and longevity in their products. In come Groove Footwear and the “Nico” gladiator sandal from the Spring 2009 collection. These dress down gladiator sandals are light on embellishments and high on style, using natures neutrals to create trendworthy casual comfort. In a recent interview with WSA Today, Ellen Campuzano, style expert and editor of fashionFACTSfolio says, “Ecology is still a big theme going forward.” Eco-friendly styles are good for the environment, sure, but now they’re good for your fashiontastic style as well.

Shoedish has held off on this Wacky Wednesday post for some months now. As most of you well know, we spent a good few months living abroad this year and while living in Spain we encountered some wonderful things, which included but were not limited to an incredible arts industry, a wonderful and accepting culture, and an incredibly beautiful landscape and architectural presence. As you can imagine, a genuine surprise came near the end of our stay, when we stumbled across this! Can we talk about how great this is? If you were a bizarre reality, seeking the attention of shoedish, what would you do? Hmmmm…turn into a giant shoe! Well, as if Barcelona didn’t have our attention enough, it turned this big-man stiletto on us and said, “Yo, how cool are we now?” That’s right, my shoe fiends, Barcelona had a temporary outdoor exhibit, which included this large shoe sculpture made of pots. Mi zapato es su zapato! So wacky and true, it’s good for you!

It has become quite apparent that buckles are going to be big this fall. Buckles have gotten little mention here at The Shoe Dish mainly because we’ve been so focussed on the oxford reinterpreted, peep-toe booties, the cowboy rider-roper boot, and all the other shoe goodies out there for fall. Fall is all about boots and booties, whether it be some futuristic version or the standard classic, but one embellishment that will be paired with either side of that shoe spectrum is buckles. Here’s an example of straps and buckles galore from L.A.M.B. These knee-high stiletto boots are complete with a two-toned S & M feel with buckled straps and buttoned straps striping the entire quarter and shaft. Gothic chic meets trendy glamour with these statement making It seems that n’t just about making boots. Available at Shopbop for $725.

Marshalls drew us in this weekend. We’ve been planning a visit to the discount megastore since arriving in the Southwest and like a moth to the flame, shoedish was bouncing off light bulbs and drooling in our dumbfounded star gazing. With all the juicy sales that are iconic of the discount designer retailer, can you really blame us? And now Marshalls has teamed up with Brickfish to launch the “Love Affair of the Sole” campaign in celebration of the new Marshalls Shoe Megashop. From Nine West to Elie Tahari, there are some serious shoes up in this b#t%$!!! The campaign calls on fashionistas and shoe fanatics alike to share our long lasting love affair with shoes by allowing us sole sisters to share our massive collections and wild shoe stories. The grand prize winner will win an all-expense paid trip for two to LA and receive a $1,000 shoe shopping spree from Marshalls, among other cool prizes. Prizes will be awarded for runner ups as well. HOLLA!!!! That’s better than anything The Shoe Dish has offered thus far. To join the affair, visit Brickfish today and confess your love! Contest ends on October 21st.

We’re not sure we love it, but we might be willing to say we like it. Hey, if your not going to deck the heels with stiletto height than you might as well deck them out with feminine thug love. These ghetto femme kicks from Nike are the rage this year when it comes to all things athletic casual and thug love cool. How about putting a little hard knock pink in your step. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, after all, and that means you have a whole month worth of unapologetic pink wearing. From shoes and shirts to dresses and skirts, this month it’s all about the pink. Even cereal boxes and yogurt lids have turned on the fuchsia so why not add a pair of athletic shoes to the pretty in pink collection?
