Maybe future historians will view it as an accidental, but for now, these wild, precarious heels are an appropriate reflection of unstable economic times—we’re as unsteady as our skyscraper stilettos.
With all the struggles in the world these past few months, you’d think the last thing on everyone’s minds would be the height of stilettos in the fashion world, and yet, that’s exactly what everyone is talking about. We can’t complain. If the world wants to focus on the heel, so be it…er, as long as once all the controversy dies down, the stiletto comes out on top, of course. Renata Espinosa from The Daily Beast is only the latest to cover the instability not on Wall Street, but on our feet. Why are designers so obsessed with the heel that puts you in the nose bleed section? Is the economy to blame for a fashion season littered in sore bums and broken ankles? Cutting-edge luxury stilettos are the go-to accessory for the fashion conscious consumer, but how does it tie into the cyclical nature of consumption. Read “If Heels Could Kill” and decide for yourself.

Oooh, you ugly girl! We were about to launch a double barrel, sawed off shotgun, attack on these retro meets astro version boots from 80%20. Um….the truth is we don’t even know what to say. It’s as if the ugliness stripped us of our boldness to create witty exclusions and blatantly mean commentary. What is that? It’s like Tiffany doing Scream (the Jackson video that is) or what would happen if Prince did a music video with the director of Alien III. Are you catching the bad news drift, here? These plastic, er rubber, er patent (??) hidden wedge booties from the company that we once commended for these has lost its damn mind. Of course, that’s just our opinion on the matter. Thoughts?

Shoedish is in love with the new boot collection from London Underground and these rustic booties in particular, are getting our boot scootin’ boogie going. It’s no surprise, really, the Old West has been planning its comeback for awhile now. Menswear made femme fatale is all in the reinterpretation and maybe for the first time, the cowboy boot has successfully been made a truly feminine object of affection without turning it pink, adding animal-print, or other overplayed girly elements of cliche kitsch. The ‘him like her’ ankle boot is classic rustic Appaloosa meets modern feminine chic. On trend with the short bootie look and perfectly weathered with this dangerously rich orchard red, the ‘him like her’ bootie from London Underground gets the coveted six stiletto salute, a very rare award for a shoe sans heel.
