The 2008 Presidential Election Campaigns were plagued by many controversies and not all of them had to do with the politics of a nation, but more the politics of fashion. With outrageous spending sprees, like the alleged $150,000 spent outfitting Sarah Palin and the $313,000 outfit worn by Cindy McCain, it’s no wonder the country is watching the “Shoes of Power”. This isn’t the first time that fashion has become the sidekick of politics; Jackie Kennedy will long be remembered for her iconic fashion sense. With the new first lady, Michelle Obama, stepping into that coveted role the country will surely be watching. If poise and intelligence is reflected in ones clothing and footwear choices than the new women in power will surely be of a practical nature. Check out the TrendyShoeShop.com and their article “Shoes of Power: Are the Potential White House Women Obsessed with Fashion” for more on this topic.

Whoever said that shoes need to be functional wasn’t living in the modern century and most certainly never had a business lunch with Dutch shoe designer, Annejet Kosters. We originally visited her creations when they landed on the runway shows this year and while we’re confused by the lack of shoe front, we must commend the truly artistic and avant garde creations. Runways shoes, after all, aren’t always meant to be worn off the runway. Check out the Britannica Blog for more on “Glamorous Excess”. If you think these frontless heels from Annejet Kosters were bizarre check out these high chair shoes. Um, really? With all this controversial talk about the height of heels, we neglected to realize the necessity for costume footwear. Er, did I say necessity. For the vertically challenged with a very serious self esteem issue, here’s some furniture for your feet!

It’s a color extravaganza at Victoria Secret and Sam Edelman is the paint master. These pretty snakeskin-embossed knee-high boots from Sam Edelman are the perfect winter accessory for dressing up muted fall and winter clothes. Great paired with just about anything from skinny jeans to pencil skirts, these almond-toe boots are complete with a simple ankle buckle and come in four great colors, including purple, which is the color to have in your shoe wardrobe this winter. At $149, they’re not exactly a bargain, but for a boot this sexy, sleek, and trendy it’s not asking too much. Besides, it beats those luxury designer boots that are currently pushing past the $1,000 mark.

It’s back to the boot here at The Shoe Dish. We were wavering off topic for a few days there in order to visit the future of our shoe brood. The Spring/Summer 2009 fashion shows are coming to an end, which means we’re back, staying the course for fall. These Chocolate Blu Carson boots from the fall boot collection over at DSW caught our eye. We’re not sure why. We haven’t decided yet if we actually like this boot or just certain elements of them. The oversized ribbon lace-up at the side is great and we’re loving the western, rustic, Appaloosa, feel of the color and texture, but we’re having a slight issue with the toe. We’ve accepted the fact that we’ll never be comfortable wearing peeked-toe shoes, even though we think they’re a great stye and look cute on just about everyone. We must, however, draw the line when it comes to peeked-toes so long and severe that there is absolutely no way to avoid tripping. One might consider changing the entire characteristic of their stride, posture, and gait in order to wear this style. The only thing this peeked-toe would be good for would be post-duel kicking…as long as you didn’t have to run away afterwards. Chocolate Blue Carson should consider making this style in an almond or round-toe and then we’d be so there.
