wacky wednesday: high tide, flipper heels

high-tide-heels.png

And we’re always complaining about how hard it is to walk in a peeked-toe. If you’ve ever warn flippers on land, than you know all about that awful duck or penguin waddle you get when sliding across the beach. Now, take that image and add a heel. We won’t pretend to get the irony behind these awfully wacky heels - a protest for global warming, perhaps - but we would like to mention that these do exist, for sale, and people have actually walked runways in and purchased them. Novelty obsession is the only explanation and yet, somehow, not an excuse. These flipper heels first graced the catwalks in 2002, when Australian footwear designer, Lisa Carney, had them on display in her Mercedes-Benz Fashion Show, but the story was repeated in 2007 when Jean Paul Gaultier sent them swimming down his own catwalk. How bizarre…wacky, tacky, and true!

*On a wholly separate note, shoedish stumbled across this really great blog today, while searching for a stockist for these High Tide Heels. While it has absolutely no relation to shoes, we wanted to share anyway. Visit seawayblog for more fun!

snakeskin booties from loeffler randall

loeffler-randall.png

Here’s some snakeskin and a bootie that’s not following the subtle trend of fall and spring footwear. These snake-embossed leather booties from Loeffler Randall, in fact, are about as far from sublte as one might get…and we loves it! A hidden platform completes that current trend, while metallic accents riddle the exterior, from a subtle gleam in the actual material and the gold zipper and buckle decorating the ankle. These booties are standing on a 4-inch heel, but the 1-inch hidden platform under the footbed makes them easy to walk in and totally wearable. Available at Shopbop.com for $625.

Hetty Rose is a shoe design company based out of the UK that we first stumbled upon a few years back and we impressed by their unique approach to shoe design. The Hetty Rose collection is based on “a theory of re-using and re-working vintage materials in a creative and sustainable way.” In the world we live in today, with the crises we face on a daily basis, it’s nice to know that at least when it comes to your shoes, you have peace of mind. Each pair of Hetty Rose shoes is handcrafted using vintage fabrics, primarily Japanese Kimonos, and are personalized to match the varied personal tastes of the wearer. These classic red pumps are made splendidly unique with the abstract heel and figured bow vamp. Order your own unique pair today.

sandal booties from steve madden

Shoedish talks so much shit about Steve Madden that we almost feel guilty for this, but since we’ve never pretended to be anything but a hypocrite, we’re just going to rip the bandage straight off and say that these perforated bootie sandals from the knockoff copycat designer are quite lovely. In the vein of the slouchy bootie sandal trend warn by Rachel Bilson and Katie Holmes, among other fashion forward celebrities, these booties actually do something different - which is rare for Steve Madden - and create a unique style detail of their own. Wow! We likes! The subtle sheen of the bronze pairs perfectly with the matte hardware and the perforated ankle wrap is simply fun and funky. Well played, Steve Madden, though we can’t help but wonder if this is simply a designer style we missed. We have a little issue with trust.

*Visit Steve Madden today through Thursday for a boot sale extravaganza, where you can save $40 on fall and winter boot trends for the upcoming season.

if shoedish were a shoe: bebe dress sandals

bebe-crazy-straps.png

If shoedish were a shoe, there’s no question that we’d be a scanky little hood rat with hypocritical tendencies and absolutely no self control, but all that negative connotation aside puts us dead center in the heart of shoe love. Hey, no one said that a shoe whore didn’t have good intentions. It’s not our fault, after all, it’s that darned shoe drug laced with stilettos, color, and jeweled embellishments. Bebe shoes be damned; you’re leading us down a path that forks left of redemption. Can you blame us? Faced with a strappy sandal stiletto platform such as this, what is the shoe obsessed to do? These pretty dress sandals from Bebe wrap your foot in suede luxury and litter the feet with a strap brimming with jeweled studs, 2 straps filled with textured yumminess, and PURPLE!!! Opulence and jewels meet in perfect harmony with these pretty and colorful winter dress sandals from Bebe.

yellow booties invoke the 80s at brittique

Originally uploaded by shoedish

They call it mellow yellow! A few years ago, shoedish stumbled upon this great website called Brittique. Chalked full and filled to the brim with the most luxurious shoes from the best designers around the world, Brittique instantly stole our cold little shoe heart, and today we find ourselves groveling once again at the foot of their online boutique. It’s no secret that shoedish loves color and booties and classics reinterpreted and these banana yellow booties are hitting the stiletto on the shoe sole. While we have some issues with peeked-toe boots, these pretty little 80s booties are full of love, life, and all the goodies in between.
