Does this post even require a shoedish rant? We’e pretty sure the clunker speaks for itself. We’ll just say that we’re very, very disappointed in you Michael Kors. A super platform is one thing, but this is wholly another. Ewwwwww!

More ruffles!!! We were reading an article yesterday about the fate of ruffles in the 2009 fashion year and saw that some people are conflicted. What’s there to be conflicted about? It’s a girly decorative piece that acts to further feminize a wardrobe. One writer actually compared ruffles to taking a step backward in the fight for women’s civil liberties. Could ruffles be dehumanizing our current culture? Haha! I think that may be taking it a bit far. Besides, if loving ruffles is wrong, I don’t want to be right! These peep-toe ruffle booties from Steve Madden are available at Victoria Secret.

Shoedish got blasted by a reader the other day for a harmless post we wrote on Crocs in September of 2008. While we were merely sharing information we found from another source, we won’t try to defend ourselves from ridiculous Croc fans who think it’s necessary to curse at an individual for having a negative opinion on their beloved brand. That said, we just thought we’d mention that Crocs is struggling right now. Footwear News reports that the Crocs brand recorded a net loss of $22.4 million in the first quarter and has reduced inventory (on a year-over-year basis) by 51%. You can blame it on the economy, but we like to think that people are wising up…that’s what we’ll continue to tell ourselves anyway.

“Top down, windows up, that’s the way we like to…” It’s no small matter that the hi-top sneaker is back, but this time around it’s not just for athletics like basketball. The hi-top sneaker has taken on a whole new city sweet, street sleek ideal. Shoedish can’t, personally, pull off the urban cool necessary to wear this kind of look; we hardly have the “Vanilla Pop” flavor necessary to be too cool for school. However, we know there are a lot of you trendsetters out there that could totally rockabilly the ‘Top Down’ from Reebok. Shop Reebok.com

Following suit from yesterdays ruffled flat shoe blast we’d like to continue with this feminine trend by showing all our shoe friends some more sweet looks. This pretty ruffled platform from Nanette Lepore is exactly what the summer ruffle trend is all about. Taking a few of this years trendiest ideas, from the wood platform to the triple-threat strap action, this ruffled platform is the creme de la creme of ruffled summer footwear. While we’re loving on a lot of this shoes minor details, it’s the pleated raffia center that has us all wrapped up, feeling cozy and smitten. On sale for $262.50 at Bloomingdale’s.

Shoe news sources have been reporting on the up-and-coming pedorthic trend sweeping the nation and while we’re normally underwhelmed by what we consider the current state of comfort footwear, we must admit that we were rather impressed by this most recent article. Orthofeet has done its very best to create a solid casual deck shoe that is uber comfort functional. Once you cross the orthopedic line when it comes to shoe design, you can get some wonky looking soles, but these are relatively sleek. While we must commend Aravon for their efforts in trying to meld designer croc-embossed business shoes with pedorthic comfort, we think they still have a little ways to go. All in all, we like the effort and will continue to follow the advancements in “trendy” pedorthic footwear.
