Payless ShoeSource© is expanding internationally. The Wal-Mart of shoes has just announced that it will be partnering with M.H. Alshaya Co. to open two Payless stores in Russia beginning in 2010. Alshaya is Payless’ franchisee partner in the Middle East and has opened stores in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. These first two stores will be followed by about five stores late next year, with a minimum of 90 stores in about five years, and at least 300 expected in the long term. Yeesh! That seems like quite the undertaking. Labor Day is a United States Federal Holiday that celebrates fair treatment and rights of laborers. It is also represents a symbolic end to summer. But, what it means to shoedish is much more material.
