britney and her boots

OMG!! The boots are back! Can someone please get this poor girl a stylist. We’re glad you’re all better and being a good mommy to your boo boos, but you have way to much money to excuse this disaster of an ensemble, Britney. Besides the fact that those boots are ugly, you live in California, and if we aren’t mistake, it’s summer there too! Buy some wedges or toeless moccasins or flip flops, for goodness sakes!

terrible tuesday: marc jacobs misstep

marc-jacobs-chain-gang.png

We cut Marc Jacobs a lot of slack in the wild shoe design department. He’s like that really cute kid in swim class who gets away with blowing half-assed bubbles and lazy kicking, because he’s just too cute! Here’s a man who wears a kilt and sells designer jelly sandals from $500…things we overlook simply on account of his reinterpretation of the mary jane. Well, this is one shoe slip we just cannot overlook. “Edgy” is the way that Saks describes this reworking of the American classic lace-up work boot, but all we’re seeing is chain gangs and prison suits. Knowing Marc Jacobs, though, maybe that’s precisely the point. It’s okay Marcy poo, we still love you!

terrible tuesday: gaudy luichiny platforms

Yowsers!! Shoedish likes color, but we’re not so sure about this. Thoughts? Here’s what the description from Luichiny says. Let’s see if you agree. “The modest platform and high heel make this style hard to resist. The multi-colored upper and peep toe design finish the look.” Can someone explain to me how a platform is modest? Hard to resist? We can barely stand it. If you’re seeing the potential, we commend you for your bravery. Before you make your purchase, however, you may want to first consider your other color combinations. These platform clown shoes come in orange/green/fuchsia and red/ocra/purple. It’s time to shine indeed.

‘opinions please’ friday: the croc boot

Originally uploaded by shoedish

If you thought it wasn’t possible for Crocs to get any worse, you were wrong. We actually have to laugh when we see all the new designs. The ‘Mammoth’? Seriously? Are they really trying to invoke images of cavemen when it comes to the style of their shoes? The only foot Crocs look remotely cute on are the tiny little peds of babies and young children…but all shoes look cute in miniature. We’ve heard all the arguments for why people love them. “They’re comfortable” seems to lead the charge, but we just have to ask why style must be removed from anything made to be “comfortable”. With all this modern comfort technology, you’d think they’d be able to come up with something devoid of creating cankles. Traditional Crocs are ugly. Period. Adding a shaft and a faux-fur interior is not helping matters. Opinions?

terrible tuesday: chinese laundry

Originally uploaded by shoedish

Ah! Call us crazy, but ew! Is it just us or are these patchwork, hidden platform pumps just yucky? There was a time when we liked patchwork footwear, in fact, we once had a pair of patchwork clogs. That’s right, my shoe friends, we worked the patchwork clogs. Actually, we wouldn’t normally be opposed to patchwork in general, except when it’s paired with a wrapped-vamp hidden platform design and finished with this bizarre cross between a peeked-toe and almond-toe that is becoming an unfortunate fashion trend for future seasons. All in all, this shoe is resembling something that an oompa loompa might wear to the backhouse. We might actually like these if they did some renovation to that awkward toe and removed the platform altogether, but that’s just us. Thoughts? If you happen to like these shoes, you’ll be happy to know that they’re currently half-off at Macy’s; the lowest price of the holiday season.

wacky wednesday: high tide, flipper heels

high-tide-heels.png

And we’re always complaining about how hard it is to walk in a peeked-toe. If you’ve ever warn flippers on land, than you know all about that awful duck or penguin waddle you get when sliding across the beach. Now, take that image and add a heel. We won’t pretend to get the irony behind these awfully wacky heels - a protest for global warming, perhaps - but we would like to mention that these do exist, for sale, and people have actually walked runways in and purchased them. Novelty obsession is the only explanation and yet, somehow, not an excuse. These flipper heels first graced the catwalks in 2002, when Australian footwear designer, Lisa Carney, had them on display in her Mercedes-Benz Fashion Show, but the story was repeated in 2007 when Jean Paul Gaultier sent them swimming down his own catwalk. How bizarre…wacky, tacky, and true!

*On a wholly separate note, shoedish stumbled across this really great blog today, while searching for a stockist for these High Tide Heels. While it has absolutely no relation to shoes, we wanted to share anyway. Visit seawayblog for more fun!
