As we’ve said before, this is going to be a big season for the mule and since classic styles don’t ever return without modifications, you’ll be sure there’s going to be a ton where the mule is concerned. The L.A.M.B. Vail is one example of the reinterpreted and modern mule. A suede patchwork design and woven platform are only the beginning of what set these apart from the more classic versions. Also, just so were sure as to not upset any uber stylists or fashion historians, but these would technically be called a ‘slide’, the open-toe version of the mule. The L.A.M.B. The mule is a classic backless shoe design that can be casual, formal, flat or heeled. The mule dates back to Ancient Roman times and was popular in both the 16th and 18th Centuries. By the early 90s, however, the mule was commonly associated with prostitutes. Popularized by Marilyn Monroe in the 50s - she also helped break their poor reputation - the clog has been the feature among many fashion cycles over the past half century. The mule, like most reinterpreted classics, has taken on several shapes and forms over the years, from pointy-toe versions to super stilettos and platforms. This year, expect to see more architecturally unique styles, as well as the clog, which is also coming back with a vengeance this season. We raise our toe boxes to the modern mule.
