As we’ve said before, this is going to be a big season for the mule and since classic styles don’t ever return without modifications, you’ll be sure there’s going to be a ton where the mule is concerned. The L.A.M.B. Vail
is one example of the reinterpreted and modern mule. A suede patchwork design and woven platform are only the beginning of what set these apart from the more classic versions. Also, just so were sure as to not upset any uber stylists or fashion historians, but these would technically be called a ‘slide’, the open-toe version of the mule. The L.A.M.B. Vail
is available at Piperlime
for $299.

Now this is what we call a sexy dress sandal. Where do we begin? The Brooke Sandal - Brown
features a snakeskin platform; a feature that alone might be enough by most sexy standards. Not to be outdone, however, by exotic dancers and beauty queens, the Brooke takes it to another level with a harness-inspired vamp featuring triple straps and an oversized gold keyhole. Channel your inner sex Goddess and strut your stuff in sassy style with the Brooke Sandal - Brown
. While these super stilettos may require a lesson on how to walk in pin-thin heels, the payoff will be well worth the effort. The Brooke Sandal in Brown
is available at Heels.com. Find your perfect fit!

The mule is a classic backless shoe design that can be casual, formal, flat or heeled. The mule dates back to Ancient Roman times and was popular in both the 16th and 18th Centuries. By the early 90s, however, the mule was commonly associated with prostitutes. Popularized by Marilyn Monroe in the 50s - she also helped break their poor reputation - the clog has been the feature among many fashion cycles over the past half century. The mule, like most reinterpreted classics, has taken on several shapes and forms over the years, from pointy-toe versions to super stilettos and platforms. This year, expect to see more architecturally unique styles, as well as the clog, which is also coming back with a vengeance this season. We raise our toe boxes to the modern mule. Below are just a few of our favorites:

Frye Harness Mule Clogs

Alexander Wang Isabeli Haircalf Pointed Mules

Promise Studded Clog from ASOS
Camilla Skovgaard Tassel Knot Mules

Retro Slide from Yves Saint Laurent
Luichiny Women’s Phan Tom Mule

Jeffrey Campbell Stop Python Print Mules

It’s been awhile since we posted anything from Irregular Choice, but we couldn’t help ourselves when we stumbled across these. They’re so outrageous that we’re not sure if we LOVE them or are just in shock. Whatever it is, they certainly got our attention and we imagine they’ll get the same reaction from you and yours. A slouchy floral print shaft meets a platform open-toe sandal to create these modern flower child bootie sandals. Featuring adjustable straps at the top shaft and vamp and a hidden platform, these floral slouch booties are the perfect addition to your summer wardrobe and as an added bonus they’ll wear you right into next fall. Available at Free People for $248.

What did we tell you about that darn wedge? Yes, my shoe friends, it’s big. This old hat shoe design has officially taken its place in the history books. Here’s another classic shoe design made trendy for 2010 with the addition of a wedge heel. The Bunty Wedge from Tabitha Simmons is complete with all the spectator details we’ve come to know and love about this classically masculine design, like a two-tone cap-toe and perforated details, with the addition of an architecturally “pretty” wedge. All this married together with a sophisticated suede quarter and front lace-up. Available online at My Teresa.

What’s not to love about this gorgeous wedge from Missoni? If shoes were art than these super wedge sandals from the Guadi-esque designer would be a priceless piece. The multi-strap design of these super platform wedges are artfully displayed in a woven pattern on the shoes t-bar. A combination of metallic detailing and a laminated effect create a beach sexy look fit enough for a Brazilian beach fantasy. The abstract designer motif of the shoes multi-colored material add some attention grabbing color, albeit unnecessarily. We love it all none-the-less. Bring on the stage-stealing glamor and move out of the way sole sista! The multi-colored wedge from Missoni is available at yoox.com
.
