We’ve been reporting on the clog trend for quite sometime now and while this isn’t the first season of clogs and reinterpreted clog-inspired footwear, mules, and slides, this season will certainly be its summit. How long they’ll stay there, nobody knows, but one thing is for sure, they’re certainly taking advantage of the spot light. The year of the clog isn’t just about the standard classic clog, after all. This season we’ll be seeing the clog-bottom - a key feature in clog footwear with its wooden platform and open-studding design - on all types of footwear. Here are just a few of the designs we’ve seen so far:
Steven Geraldyn Suede Clog Boots

Stuart Weitzman - Apron (Black Vecchio Nappa w/ Antique Gold) - Footwear

N.Y.L.A. Shonda Clog

Steven Grifin Platform Clogs

Stuart Weitzman - Mcallen (Nero Old West Calf) - Footwear

Sherling-cuff clog-bottomed boots from Marni

This season it’s all about perforated, mesh, and decorative cut-out leather fabrics. Forget extreme cut-out booties and caged sandals for two minutes, so you can focus on this great new trend. We’re not saying that those trends are dead and gone, because they most certainly aren’t, but this new breed of cut-outs will have you feeling refreshed and revitalized, the way any good trend should make you feel. From standard-issue perforated lace-up spectators from Tory Burch to fashion forward caterpillar-bitten leather booties from Anthropologie, there’s a decorative cut-out for just about every style and taste. Here are just a few of our favorites from across the design board:

Mini-perforations makes these cute, sassy, and boyfriend chic oxfords from House of Harlow 1960 very, very trendworthy.

Tory Burch redeems herself with
Victor Navy Leather
stacked wedge lace-up booties in a uniformly perforated design.

Who knew pests could be so artistic? These Grazing Caterpillar Booties from Anthropologie prove that holes can be very fashion-friendly.

Old meets new with the Sam Edelman Women’s Sawyer Oxford
, which brings the classic oxford style to trendy new heights.

Mesh can mean a lot of things, but when it comes to these open-toe sandal booties from Rachel Roy
, we think ‘to fit together effectively’ is the best definition.

Is it just us or do these designer sandals from Chloe look oddly like classic girls buckle sandals? I swear I owned a pair of these sandals in black when I was four. They’re sort of straddling a very thin line between matronly and childish. Yet - yes there is a yet - we think we maybe, kind of, a little bit, might…like them(?) It’s that feeling we had when we saw Inception. When people asked what we thought, we weren’t really sure. “We think we liked it?” We’re definitely not liking them enough to pay that bizarro designer price tag…even if they are half off. The t-strap buckle sandal from Chloe is available, on sale, at Barneys.

The zipper and chain trend is everywhere these days, from necklaces and cuff bracelets to blouse necklines and the embellishment of shoes and the detail doesn’t seem to have a stopping point. Shoedish, herself, is a fan of the decoration. We have a few heels - a chain-embellished pair of wedges we bought for our birthday - and a very cute shirt with a zippered neckline, but none of those trendy articles compare to these perfectly awesome chain-piped thong sandals from Giuseppe Zanotti. Sometimes we hate the designer for making so many shoes that we covet and desire. It’s really, really unfair! These gold-tone chain trim sandals from the designer label have all the glam and bling we love about this hearty metal trend with a touch of that sophistication only GZ could really pull off.

We have suddenly found a new warm spot in our heart for Steve Madden. Blame it on our recent emotional breakdown that has put us into the punch drunk epilogue of our present life, but we have a newfound love and appreciation for rainbows and unicorns and yes, we’re well aware of how crazy that makes us sound, but these pretty rainbow-inspired casual sandals - the SIMMPLE BRIGHT MULTI
- from Steve Madden have put us into a relaxed and happy state of mind; a place we haven’t been in quite sometime. Now if only they could get on that rainbow nail polish - polish that changes colors when exposed to bright light - like they had on Drop Dead Diva last weekend. Fantasy, no. Fabulous, yes!
