rain boots from endless.com

There is very little that shoedish can’t handle, but rain is one of the few. Unless we’re making out in it with Ryan Gosling ala The Notebook, we don’t really see the point of trudging through it. Living in a walking city, where torrential rains and 50mph winds leave it nearly impossible to carry an umbrella, makes our distaste for rain almost unbearable. If it weren’t for Wellies, those dreamy rubber boots, and hooded rain coats from all those super outdoor enthusiast brands like The North Face, we’d probably crawl back into bed and “drown” in our rain-monster nightmares. Check out www.endless.com for some great deals on boots. if things keep going the way they are now, you’ll certainly need them this Spring.

wedge welly, they make the rain slightly bearable

We don’t care what anyone says, there is nothing worse than rain when you live in a walking city. We can handle just about anything. We’ve learned to deal with the fact that we will be cold at least three solid months a year, that our circulation-challenged limbs will give us the sensation of early-onset RA in our wrists, and that try as we may, even the warmest tights are no match to a 12-degree winter day. Rain, however, we just can’t deal with. It spits and blows and spins in every direction and it just plain SUCKS!!!!! Even our super cute and totally flattering - which is hard for a rubber boot - wedge rain boots from Wedge Welly find it hard to brighten our days when its cold and wet outside. Still, they are just about the only things that make it bearable. Check these uber cute wellies out for yourself and check out our Wedge Welly feature coming up on on The Shoe Dish “shoe of the week”.

trend alert: huarache sandals

The classic huarache sandal, whose made character appearances here and there in just about every season for the past five years is finally getting a standout role in Spring 2010. Huarache is a type of Mexican shoe whose direct translation is “sandal”. That being the case it’s hard to define exactly what a huarache sandal is, but the accepted design of a huarache is characterized by an intricate weave pattern, using small leather strips. The huarache of Spring/Summer 2010 has been transformed with patterns, perforations, multiple strapping details, a heel, and much, much more. Shoedish likey! From the dress sandal huarache at Nine West to the casual modern interpretations from, this once indestructible peasant shoe has finally made it to the catwalk.

toms shoes for valentine’s day

We read this super cute love story on the TOMS Shoes website the other day and we thought, in honor of the month of Love, that we should share it with our friendly shoe lovers: “When we were in Virginia on vacation this past summer (from our home in CA) our delightful, 22 year old bearded, tattooed web designer son and our family were eating burgers at little retro diner in Williamsburg. We were approached by a (brave!) girl “My friend wanted me to give you her number” is what she told our son.   Yes, this cute and stylish 20 year old thought our son was cute… but what clinched it was that he was wearing TOMS!  Because he was fashionable AND socially conscious she could NOT let this opportunity pass by! He called her.  They dated cross-country (interrupted briefly by his 6 week trip to help orphans in Kenya).  They are now planning their Virginia wedding and they want everyone in the wedding party (bride, groom, attendants, flower girls – parents???) to wear TOMS!”

*Pick up your pair of Valentine’s - and LOVE - inspired espadrilles from TOMS Shoes. Here are a few of our favorites:
