the new ugg

Originally uploaded by shoedish

Shoedish used to talk a lot of trash about Ugg Australia. Actually, it was less the label than the way fashionistas decided to style them, but when it comes to shoes and fashion, we only see one side of the story. The traditional Ugg boot, filled with cozy warm shearling, serves a definite purpose. While we stand by our distaste of classic Ugg boots worn with bare legs and mini skirts, we’re in full support of pairing them with skinny jeans or mini’s and tights. Uggs, however, have taken on a new role in footwear, with there women’s fashion luxury collection. Now, we’re free to choose cute styles, like wedge boots and rustic knee-highs, all complete with a shearling center for the classic Ugg comfort that made them famous. We’ll give credit where credit is due. There aren’t a whole lot of shoes, particularly boots, that can claim to be both winter and summer comfortable.

holiday shoes: homecoming travel wear

holiday-shoes-travel-wear.png

Don’t you just love the retail holiday season? It’s always so fun to see Christmas trees at the beginning of November. Christmas comes and goes too fast, anyway, so shoedish is happy to start the celebrations two months in advance! In preparation for the parties, homecomings, and services you’ll likely attend over the next two months, shoedish has started a shoe wardrobe list of seasonal must-haves, from the perfect party shoe to the comfy cute travel footwear. Momma Shoedish once told us that we should always look put-together, but comfortable when we fly, because you never know who you might meet on a plane. A friend of a friend just married and had a baby with a man she sat next to on an international flight, so I guess Momma Shoedish was right. How will you be celebrating this holiday season? No matter what the season has in store, shoedish will make sure you’re footwear speaks to the occasion. First up, the perfect travel shoe. What, we couldn’t have told the above story and then started the holiday shoe series with a dress sandal. Any of the following picks will be great for impressing the home town on your holiday break, looking casually cute on an early morning flight, and all the post-holiday sale shopping you’ll be doing.

*Featured shoes are from Love from Australia, Aldo, Tory Burch, daniblack, Kate Spade, Franco Sarta, and Penny Loves Kenny.

spring preview: luna rosa

Originally uploaded by shoedish

With the Spring/Summer 2009 fashion show season rounding up, it’s time to take another glance at what the future holds in shoe. As we all gear up for another cold winter season, shoedish can’t help but wonder about the warm weather that is just around the corner and these pretty kitten wedge sandals from Luna Rosa are helping us to realize the future fantasy. Purple patent teams up with gold and silver metallics to create an edgy spring look and the crisscross straps at the quarter create an intricately woven design. Here’s the chic and sophisticated version of the jellie shoe that tried and tried, in vain, to make a comeback a few season back. We think this reinterpretation has a little bit better of a chance. What to look for for spring: More kitten wedges and tapered heels pair with sleek lines and silhouettes while color and shine will do all the talking. These sandals from Luna Rosa will be available in late February 2009.

‘opinions please’ friday: 80%20 astro boots

Originally uploaded by shoedish

Oooh, you ugly girl! We were about to launch a double barrel, sawed off shotgun, attack on these retro meets astro version boots from 80%20. Um….the truth is we don’t even know what to say. It’s as if the ugliness stripped us of our boldness to create witty exclusions and blatantly mean commentary. What is that? It’s like Tiffany doing Scream (the Jackson video that is) or what would happen if Prince did a music video with the director of Alien III. Are you catching the bad news drift, here? These plastic, er rubber, er patent (??) hidden wedge booties from the company that we once commended for these has lost its damn mind. Of course, that’s just our opinion on the matter. Thoughts?

wacky wednesday: john galliano

Originally uploaded by shoedish

Architecturally sound or architecturally weird? You decide. We’ve been wondering through the fantasy of runway fashion, especially when it comes to shoes these day, when we stumbled across these funky, Alien 3, inspired patent platforms from John Galliano’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Now shoedish is all about unique shoes; shoes with funk and character almost always make our ‘It’ list, but a unique style cannot neglect taste and function. While shoes don’t always have to be completely practical - the phrase “one hour heel” was coined for a reason - they do need to be somewhat functional. Shoes are an accessory, but unlike purses and jewelry, you actually have to use them for an important aspect of your physicality. We haven’t worn these shoes, so we don’t know how walkable they are, but the wacky factor is clear. Wacky bad or wacky good is no matter, it’s just that they are what they are.
